U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) arrested a human smuggler after a dangerous chase that ended when the suspect slammed into another vehicle in Arizona, authorities say.
The harrowing incident unfolded near the Mexico border last week in USBP’s Tucson Sector.
The driver of a Range Rover fled from an immigration checkpoint on State Route 286 near Three Points, prompting a chase that involved a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations aircraft.
USBP agents attempted to pull the SUV over, but the driver sped over spike strips and continued northbound until the suspect rear-ended a stopped vehicle.
All three occupants of the Range Rover bailed out and attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.
“The driver, a U.S. citizen with an extensive criminal history, faces federal charges for human smuggling, fleeing law enforcement, and endangering human life,” CBP explained in a press release.
“The two Mexican national passengers, a juvenile and an adult, are being processed for unlawful entry into the United States. The adult passenger also has an extensive criminal background.”
One of the illegal aliens was just 13 years old, USBP says.
It is unclear if the juvenile was related to anyone in the vehicle.
The adult illegal alien has apparently been removed from the U.S. at least once before.
The driver is facing a slew of charges, including Alien Smuggling, High Speed Flight from a Checkpoint, and Conspiracy to Transport Aliens, Placing the Life of a Person in Jeopardy.
Dangerous smuggling pursuits unfold constantly along the U.S.-Mexico border, as InfoWars frequently reports.
