USA fencer Stephanie Turner was disqualified from a USA Fencing tournament this week for taking a knee and refusing to compete against a biological man who identifies as a woman.
The transgender fencer, Redmond Sullivan, ended up finishing 24th out of 39 in the tournament.
“Redmond was under the impression that I was going to start fencing. So when I took the knee, I looked at the ref and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I cannot do this. I am a woman, and this is a man, and this is a women’s tournament. And I will not fence this individual.’” Turner told Fox News.
NBC News was sure to point out Turner “misgendered” Sullivan.
The tournament was not a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) event and was instead held by USA Fencing, which oversees and trains American fencers who compete in the Olympic Games.
When Sullivan approached Turner to inquire about her forfeiture, she told him, “I am refusing to fence you because I am a woman and you are a man.”
The trans fencer reportedly told Turner that a member of the tournament’s board of directors who supports him was attending the event.
Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines, who became an activist after speaking out about having to compete against trans swimmer Lia Thomas, wrote on 𝕏, “THIS is how you say enough is enough. BOYcott!!! Kudos to this woman for taking a stand.”
Turner told Fox News Digital the transgender infiltration of women’s sports led her to vote for Republican politicians this past election after being a lifelong Democrat, labeling herself a “new Republican conservative.”
“I voted red down the ticket this year,” Turner said. “It was like waking up to the lies of the mainstream media… Just to watch so many of my friends have this glassy-eyed look while just defending this policy because their brains can not manage the possibility that their party or their position has been wrong on this, and perhaps this isn’t a civil rights movement, and they have been misled.”
