Bystanders anxiously filmed as a 21-year-old female security guard working at Almaty Airport in Kazakhstan was grabbed by her ponytail and held hostage at knifepoint by a madman before being rescued by a savvy former boxer.

The woman screamed in terror as the suspect held her by the hair and reportedly threatened to use his phone to set off a bomb.

At some point, 52-year-old father of five and ex-boxer Musa Abdraim asked the man to let the woman go and take him hostage instead.

“I saw that he was going to stab her,” Abdraim explained. “I told him, ‘Take me hostage instead of her.’ The attacker had a knife and a phone. He told the policemen he would press a button on the phone, and everything would blow up.”

The suspect agreed and grabbed Adbraim by the arm while continuing to issue threats until the new captive was able to quickly grab the blade and rip it out of the man’s hand.

As soon as the suspect was disarmed, several police officers helped Adbraim toss him to the ground until he was restrained.

Kazakh police issued a statement labeling Abdraim a “hero,” and the nation’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced he’ll be awarded a state medal for bravery.

The knife-wielding man is facing up to 12 years in prison over the incident.
