New York Democrat governor Kathy Hochul’s administration is funding and promoting classes to help illegal immigrants avoid ICE deportation raids, according to records obtained by PATRICK REPORTS.
The New York state government has an Office for New Americans (ONA), which offers “Legal Help” including “Answers to immigration & naturalization questions” and “Referrals to free legal help and programs.” The New York Department of State, which oversees ONA, has a “Know Your Rights” help page for immigrants that features the New York Immigration Coalition and Hispanic Federation.
An “ONA Grantee” called Dutchess County Opportunity Center recently held an “In-person Event” labeled “Know Your Rights — ICE…U.S. Immigration and Customs” in Wappinger Falls, New York on February 19, according to a page on the New York State Department website.

An “ONA Grantee” called Make the Road New York held an in-person event on February 5 in Ossining, New York labeled “Know Your Rights — General ICE Raids,” according to a page on the New York State Department website.

Make the Road New York published a “Deportation Defense Manual” in 2022 featuring a cover photograph of a protest sign that reads “#AbolishICE.” The manual advises immigrants “Do not open the door” if ICE visits their homes.

Hochul is making it a top priority to defend immigrants.
According to a 2023 announcement featured on the website immigrantarc.com: “Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the launch of three new legal services grants aimed at assisting the thousands of immigrants who have arrived in New York City this year.
