The man who murdered a mother of four rideshare driver in Pennsylvania was sentenced to life in prison, with dashcam footage of him holding the woman at gunpoint inside her vehicle going viral.
A judge sentenced Calvin Crew, 25, to life in prison, plus an additional 13 to 26 years, after his conviction earlier this year on first-degree murder, robbery kidnapping to facilitate a felony, evidence tampering and firearm charges in the Feb. 2022 death of mom and Uber driver Christina Spicuzza, 38.
Dashcam footage from inside Spicuzza’s vehicle captured the distressing moments Crew wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask held a gun to the back of her head as he told her to complete the trip and “keep driving,” as she begged for her life telling him she had four kids.
“Come on, I have a family,” Spicuzza told Crew, adding, “I’m begging you. I have four kids.”
“I got a family too,” the criminal told the frightened mom. “Now drive.”
“Please take that off of me,” Christina is heard telling Crew, who responded, “Do what I say and everything will be all right.”
After a two-day search, which involved tracking cell tower pings and Spicuzza’s route, her body was found with a gunshot wound to her head in a wooded area in Monroeville.
The Daily Mail reports:
The recovered dashcam was found just a tenth of a mile from where she picked up Crew. Police retrieved video and audio from a mini SD in the camera, which recorded audio and video from the front and back of the car, court paperwork says.
At Monday’s sentencing, Spicuzza’s family said by not seeking the death penalty they had shown Crew mercy, which was more than he had done for Christina.
“You should have the death penalty but we showed mercy,” her mother Cindy said. “You executed her. No mercy, no remorse. It was abhorrent. It was murder.”
Spicuzza’s fiancé Brandon Marto blasted Crew for not being present at Monday’s sentencing, telling the judge he hopes the murderer will “rot and burn in prison.”
“No reason other than a coward. A coward who couldn’t be here today to face this,” Marto said.
“Christy was everything for my family. I was lost, out of control. She saw something in me,” he added.
Meanwhile, Crew’s attorney, who showed up on his behalf, argued he “lived a childhood surrounded by violence and neglect” and was “intellectually and socially challenged.”
The New York Post reports: “His lawyers have indicated that he will appeal his conviction and maintain his innocence.”
