An upset mother in Illinois blasted her local school district for violating the Trump administration’s transgender locker room policies after she said her 13-year-old daughter and others were forced by the school to change into P.E. clothes in front of a transgender student.
“This nightmare began on February 5th when my daughter was using the girl’s bathroom and was stunned that a biological male student was using it as well,” the mom, Nicole Georgas, told the Deerfield Public Schools District 109 school board.
“She came home frightened and was extremely upset,” the mom described, saying her daughter was later told “that a student can use the bathroom as well as the female locker room because they now identify as female.”
The mom took up the issue with the school’s principal, who said the policy had been approved by the school’s Superintendent and that according to legal counsel “the student could use both the locker room and bathroom.”
The angry mom said she notified the principal the district was in violation of the Trump administration’s federal policy barring “transgender women” from using female locker rooms and bathrooms, and proceeded to file a civil rights complaint with the Department of Justice.
According to Georgas, the school doubled down on the policy and punished several girls after they refused to change into their P.E. clothes in front of the male student just days later.
“The next day, Assistant Principal Cathy Van Treese pulled the girls into their office questioning them. The same day, Assistant Superintendent Joanna Ford, Cathy Van Treese, and multiple teachers all came into the girl’s locker room making them change into uniform,” the mom described, adding the same thing continued to happen all week.
“My daughter refused to take part in having her privacy being violated,” the mom stated, pointing out she rejected an offer for her daughter to be moved to another P.E. class, and adding, “She is not changing for the remainder of the year.”
“The girls just want their privacy, and they want their locker room back. There are gender-neutral options,” the mom told the board.
“This is my daughter’s story and the story of many other young girls who have been forced at the difficult age to do something they know, and most adults know, is wrong,” the mom continued, imploring board members to “do the right thing and give these girls their locker room and bathrooms back.”
The mom’s disturbing story comes as President Trump on Jan. 25 signed an executive order titled,
“DEFENDING WOMEN FROM GENDER IDEOLOGY EXTREMISM,” which instructed federal agencies to “ensure that intimate spaces designated for women, girls, or females (or for men, boys, or males) are designated by sex and not identity.”
