A U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agent used his SUV to block a vehicle as it rolled towards a major highway after a teen illegal bailed out during a smuggling attempt in Arizona this week.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night in Nogales.
Agents were attempting to pull over a suspicious Chevrolet Trailblazer to perform an immigration inspection when the driver began taking evasive action.
The suspect pulled into a restaurant parking and then jumped out of the moving vehicle.
“A quick-thinking agent swiftly drove his patrol vehicle in front of the Trailblazer, preventing it from rolling toward I-19 and into incoming traffic. It collided against the agent’s passenger door before coming to a complete stop,” Customs and Border Protection explained in a press release.

Another agent pursued and apprehended the smuggling suspect, who turned out to be a 16-year-old illegal alien from Mexico.
Two passengers abandoned in the Trailblazer were also identified as illegal aliens from Mexico.
All three were taken into custody.
The driver faces human smuggling charges and his passengers will be used as material witnesses against him.
“This incident could have turned out very differently,” said USBP Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin.
“Thanks to these agents’ immediate actions, no one was hurt. Smuggling organizations don’t care who they put at risk, including aliens, agents, and the public. Their tactic of recruiting minors to do their dirty work is especially dangerous, and it needs to stop.”
